The Foundation was made possible by a generous $153,000 bequest from the estate of Lillian Culbertson, a Downers Grove resident and long-time library volunteer in the Technical Services Department. Her fund will supplement the library’s book budget.

‘Lil,’ as she was known, was head of Technical Services at the Skokie Public Library for many years before asking to volunteer at the Downers Grove Public Library. “I still remember the day I took her call,” said Amy Ruyle, head of the library’s Technical Services Department. “I just about fell off my chair because as teenagers, my husband and brother actually worked for Lil at Skokie, and I worked there, too!”
