The Frieda Humphris Society was established in honor of Frieda Humphris, who made a great impact on the Downers Grove Public Library. In 1925, while an 18-year-old student, Frieda began working part-time at the library. She was employed for 47 years, serving as the first full-time childrens librarian and then as library director from 1942 until her 1972 retirement.
